Santa Lucia Day, celebrated on December 13th, is one of the most beautiful and traditional Scandinavian holiday festivals! In the early hours of the morning, the oldest daughter of the house, followed by her attendants, serves steaming coffee and saffron buns to her drowsy family. Dressed in white and wearing a crown of candles, she brings light and hope to the darkest days of winter, and marks the start of the Christmas season.

My pattern, which includes full-color instructions and the dress pattern, will walk you through every step on your way to making these sweet girls to help celebrate the season.

To create five dolls, you will need :

5 doll pins
5 doll-pin stands
5 doll head beads
(5) 8" square pieces of assorted white calicos (for dresses)
5 pieces white pipecleaner (for arms)
3 pieces silver pipecleaner (for candles)
1 piece green pipecleaner (for crown)
Small amount of red yarn or embroidery floss (for sashes)
Acrylic paint
Clear varnish
Scalloped or zigzag pinking shears
Regular scissors and embroidery scissors
Wire cutters (for cutting pipecleaners)
Heavy-weight thread
Needle
Assorted paintbrushes, at least one of them fine-tipped
